Tottenham are understood to have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ Ange Postecoglou to become the club’s new coach.
Postecoglou has emerged as the leading candidate to become Antonio Conte’s permanent successor in north London, following two successful seasons at Celtic.
The Australian has won five trophies since being appointed at Celtic Park and led the Scottish side to a domestic treble last season.
The 57-year-old was coy on his future when asked about potential interest from Spurs, following Celtic’s 3-1 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.
However, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Spurs have reached a verbal agreement with Postecoglou on a two-year deal with the option of a further season.
Spurs want Postecoglou to lead the club’s rebuild following a disappointing campaign that saw Conte sacked and interim managers Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason fail to improve results. The north Londoners ended the season eighth – their lowest Premier League finish since 2008/09 – to miss out on European qualification.
The Premier League side must now reach an agreement with Celtic, who are reluctant to lose Postecoglou following his success with the side. Postecoglou signed a 12-month rolling contract at Celtic when arriving from Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos in 2021.
