Real Madrid set to step up interest in Chelsea’s Kai Havertz

Real Madrid are set to step up their interest in signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea with the forward keen on the move.

The Spanish side are targeting a deal for Havertz as Carlo Ancelotti looks to improve his attacking options ahead of next season, following the confirmed departures of Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio and Mariano.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Real Madrid will ‘insist’ for Havertz in the coming days and personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

Havertz has struggled for consistent performances since signing for Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen, but was viewed as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents when moving to the Premier League in a £72m deal in 2020.

Chelsea are understood to be open to his sale this summer as the Blues look to rebuild and reduce a bloated squad, but are waiting to see if other clubs join the race with Bayern Munich – now under the management of ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel – long-term admirers.

The Germany international has scored 32 goals in 139 appearances for the west Londoners, including the winner as Chelsea beat Manchester City in the 2021 Champions League final.
