Chelsea have joined the race to sign Gabri Veiga this summer, with Barcelona and Liverpool also interested in signing the Celta Vigo midfielder.
Veiga has been one of the breakthrough stars in La Liga this season and has impressed since earning a regular role in the Celta Vigo side. The 21-year-old scored 11 league goals from a central midfield position last season as Carlos Carvalhal’s side narrowly avoided relegation.
His performances have attracted notable interest from Europe and Chelsea are the latest club linked with activating Veiga’s €40m (£34.4m) release clause.
The Guardian are reporting that Chelsea ‘are prepared to push hard’ to sign Veiga this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to rebuild his midfield.
Kai Havertz has emerged as a transfer target for Real Madrid, while the west Londoners are expected to see Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek leave this summer. Conor Gallagher and N’Golo Kante could also move on.
Veiga’s arrival would continue Chelsea’s policy of bringing in emerging talent, but the Blues could face competition from Liverpool who will move on to additional midfield targets once a deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister is finalised.
Barcelona are also keen on a deal for Veiga, who has emerged as one of La Liga’s best prospects this season.
