Inter Miami target Busquets and Di Maria after Messi capture

Inter Miami are targeting deals to sign Sergio Busquets and Angel Di Maria after confirming the capture of Lionel Messi.

Messi’s move to MLS was confirmed this week in the most high-profile signing in the league’s history, with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner set to sign for Inter Miami after leaving Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

“I made the decision that I am going to Miami. I still haven’t closed it one hundred percent. I’m missing some things but we decided to continue my journey there,” Messi told Diario Sport and Mundo Deportivo.

Inter Miami are now planning to reunite Messi with two former team-mates as the MLS club – co-owned by David Beckham – chase deals for Busquets and Di Maria.

Each are free agents after leaving Barcelona and Juventus respectively, with Busquets having departed the former after a decorated one-club career that has seen the midfielder win nine La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies among his honours.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Miami are also keen on a deal for Di Maria, who formed part of Argentina’s World Cup winning team alongside Messi in 2022.

The 35-year-old’s preference is understood to remain in Europe however, with former club Benfica interested in re-signing the winger. Di Maria won the Primeira Liga title with Benfica in 2009/10 before a move to Real Madrid.
