Match-winner Rodri reacts as Manchester City complete the Treble

Rodri has called Manchester City’s victory in the Champions League final a ‘dream come true’ after the club beat Inter Milan to complete the Treble.

Rodri’s goal was the decisive moment of the final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, as the midfielder arrived onto a loose ball to fire home in the 68th minute.

City were the better side despite losing Kevin De Bruyne to injury in the first half, but survived scares in the second half as Federico Dimarco hit the crossbar for Inter and Ederson made a point-blank save from Romelu Lukaku.

The full-time whistle confirmed City’s status as European champions for the first time, while Pep Guardiola’s side became just the second English club – after Manchester United in 1998/99 – to win a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble.

City’s success in Europe came after losing the 2021 final and Rodri admitted it was a ‘dream come true’ after the club’s near misses in recent campaigns.

“It’s emotional. A dream come true. All these guys around here waited I don’t know how many years,” the Spaniard told BT Sport.

“They deserve it, we deserve it. The last years we were so close. I just want to thank everyone. It wasn’t easy. What a team we faced, the way they defend and counter-attack.

“We gave everything. Finals are like this. You can’t expect to play as well as always. Emotions and nerves are there. We competed like animals. It’s a dream. This moment will never happen again.”
