Højlund flattered by Man United links as he discusses potential move

Rasmus Højlund admits he is flattered by speculation linking him with a summer move to Manchester United.

Højlund is understood to be on Manchester United’s radar after an impressive breakthrough season at Atalanta, one which has seen the 20-year-old score 10 goals in all competitions.

Højlund made headlines after marking his first start for Denmark with a hat-trick against Finland during March’s international break, before scoring a brace against Kazakhstan to emerge as the leading scorer in qualification for the 2024 European Championship.

United have been linked with a move to sign Højlund as Erik ten Hag looks to add a centre-forward to his squad this summer, though the Dane denied reports that he had held a video call with the Red Devils over a potential Premier League transfer.

“There has been no video call,” Højlund told Berlingske.dk, though when asked about contact with the Old Trafford club, he said: “I can’t say anything about that.”

Højlund said that it was flattering to be linked with a move to United however, admitting a transfer to the club would fulfil his ambition of playing at the highest level.

“It’s a huge club, so I must have done something right if it says they want me.

“My goal is to reach the top shelf, and you can say that Manchester United is. So it will be huge.”
