Arsenal view Man United as ‘bigger threat’ than Chelsea for Moises Caicedo signature

Arsenal are understood to view Manchester United as a ‘bigger threat’ than Chelsea in the race to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo is a transfer target for a number of Premier League clubs after an excellent season at Brighton, with the 21-year-old impressing as the Seagulls secured a top-six finish and Europa League qualification.

Arsenal saw an approach turned down for the Ecuador international during the January transfer window and are expected to renew their interest in Caicedo this summer, but face competition from Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Gunners want to add Caicedo to their midfield options alongside West Ham captain Declan Rice, with Mikel Arteta’s side reportedly closing in on a club-record agreement for the latter.

The Athletic are reporting that Arsenal view Manchester United as the biggest threat to their hopes of signing Caicedo, who ranked second in the Premier League for both tackles and interceptions during the 2022/23 campaign.

Chelsea are keen on a deal and expressed interest in Caicedo in January, but the west Londoners are without European football for next season and the club’s ability to make big-money signings will be dictated by outgoings in the upcoming transfer window.

Brighton value Caicedo at around £70m and Roberto De Zerbi suggested an exit was likely following the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.
