PSG hold talks with Arsenal boss Arteta

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly held talks with Mikel Arteta regarding the possibility of becoming their next manager.

PSG are on the lookout for a new boss after relieving Christophe Galtier of his duties earlier this month, with the French giants having only won the Ligue 1 title by a single point, and having exited the Champions League at the last 16 stage.

A number of mangers have already been linked with the vacant role at the Parc des Princes, including Jose Mourinho and Julian Nagelsmann, though talks with the latter have since broken down.

Now, according to French outlet RMC, PSG sporting director Luis Campos is an admirer of Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, and they report that the pair have ‘spoken to each other in recent weeks’.

Arteta – who had a 18-month loan spell at PSG during his early playing days – steered Arsenal to a second place finish and a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2016/17, battling Manchester City for the Premier League title until the final weeks of the season.

The Spaniard is under contract at the Emirates until 2025 and is already planning to strengthen his squad, with the RMC report admitting the chances of him moving to the French capital are ‘almost nil’.

They do say name Porto’s Sergio Conceicao as one of the main men in the frame to take the job with the French champions.

It is said that the Portuguese has an ‘icy’ relationship with the Porto heirarchy and is ‘tired’ of losing his best players in each transfer window, with the 48-year-old open to a ‘change of scenery’.

Meanwhile, former PSG midfielder and current Bologna boss Thiago Motta is also said to be appreciated.
