Kai Havertz is ‘very close’ to a move to Arsenal with the club in talks with Chelsea over a deal for the Germany international.
Arsenal have had an opening offer rejected for Havertz, but the two clubs remain in discussions over a deal and the midfielder is keen on the move to the Emirates.
Sky Sports Germany are reporting that the Gunners are close to reaching an agreement on personal terms with the 24-year-old, but remain unwilling to meet Chelsea’s asking price of around £75m.
Mikel Arteta wants to add Havertz to his creative options and views him as an ideal option to provide competition and support for Gabriel Jesus in attack.
Havertz has struggled for consistency at Chelsea since signing for the west Londoners in a £72m deal from Bayer Leverkusen and scored nine goals in 47 appearances last season. Chelsea are understood to be willing to allow Havertz to leave the club, as part of a clear-out under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Bayern Munich are also interested in a deal for Havertz and have ‘inquired’ about the conditions of a transfer in recent days, but Arsenal’s interest is advanced and there has been no formal offer from the Bundesliga champions.
