Manchester United have ‘concrete’ interest in Monaco defender Axel Disasi as the club consider alternatives to Kim Min-jae.
United had been interested in a deal to sign Min-jae from Napoli, but Bayern Munich have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign the South Korean centre-back.
Bayern are close to reaching an agreement with Min-jae over a five-year deal and the Bundesliga champions will activate the defender’s release clause when it becomes active on July 1.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United will turn to Disasi if, as expected, Min-jae signs for Bayern. The Red Devils have tracked the progress of the 25-year-old at Monaco, while the club’s scouts have also monitored Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.
Disasi has made 129 appearances across three seasons at Monaco and his form last season saw the defender break into the France squad.
The centre-back became the first player to debut for France at a World Cup since 1966 in Qatar last winter and formed part of the squad that reached the tournament’s final.
Erik ten Hag is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements ahead of next season with Harry Maguire expected to leave the club this summer. Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe will also depart when their contracts expire at Old Trafford next month.
