Manchester United ‘getting closer’ to Mason Mount agreement

Manchester United are ‘getting closer’ to an agreement with Chelsea over Mason Mount, despite seeing a second bid turned down.

Chelsea have rejected Manchester United’s second offer for the England midfielder, worth an initial £45m with a further £5m in add-ons.

Mount is keen on the move and The Athletic are reporting that Chelsea are ‘trying to comply’ with the player’s wishes, but feel the second offer from United is below their valuation of the 24-year-old.

Chelsea are understood to have countered with a proposal of £60m plus £5m in add-ons and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils meet that figure. Mount has just a year to run on his contract at Chelsea and will be available as a free agent in 12 months.

Despite the difference between Chelsea’s valuation and United’s latest proposal, an agreement is understood to be ‘getting closer’ as negotiations between the clubs continue.

Mount has made 195 appearances for Chelsea since progressing from the club’s academy system and was named as the club’s Player of the Season in 2020/21 and 2021/22. He has also scored five goals in 36 appearances for England.
