Liverpool are exploring a move to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig as the club look for midfield additions.
Szoboszlai’s representatives held talks with Liverpool this week to discuss a potential move to the Premier League, though there is an acceptance that a deal will be difficult to conclude.
According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old has a release clause of €70m (£60.5m) in his contract at the Bundesliga side, while Fabrizio Romano reports that the figure is only valid until June 30.
Despite the potential cost of the deal, Szoboszlai is ‘high’ in Liverpool’s thinking as Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul his midfield and features on the Reds’ shortlist alongside Nice’s Khephren Thuram and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
Any transfer will be independent of Leipzig’s interest in Fabio Carvalho with the German side negotiating a loan deal for the Liverpool midfielder.
Szoboszlai has been a key figure for Leipzig since signing from Red Bull Salzburg in a €20m deal two seasons ago and has helped the side to consecutive DFB-Pokal triumphs across the last two campaigns.
He has featured in various attacking midfield roles for Leipzig and scored six goals and provided eight assists in 31 appearances in the Bundesliga last season.
