Paris Saint-Germain are ‘pushing’ to beat Premier League clubs to the signing of Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga.
Veiga is a transfer target for Europe’s leading clubs after a brilliant breakthrough campaign at Celta Vigo last season, with the 21-year-old scoring 11 goals in 28 La Liga starts from a central midfield position.
Liverpool have considered a move for Veiga as Jurgen Klopp continues to overhaul his midfield options, while Chelsea are understood to be contemplating a move for the Spaniard as Mason Mount closes in on a transfer to Manchester United. The west Londoners have also seen Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante depart the club this summer.
Barcelona and Manchester City have also expressed interest, with the latter viewing Veiga as a potential addition after withdrawing from the race to sign Declan Rice from West Ham.
However, The Guardian are reporting that PSG are pushing to conclude a deal as the Parisians rebuild their squad ahead of next season. Veiga’s contract at Celta Vigo contains a release clause of €40m (£34.4m) and PSG are preparing to trigger the clause.
PSG are closing in on a number of transfers as the Ligue 1 champions look to bounce back from a disappointing European exit last season.
The French side are understood to have agreed deals to sign Manuel Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon and Bayern Munich defender Lucas Hernandez, while announcements are expected on the free transfer arrivals of Marco Asensio and Milan Skriniar.
