Manchester United have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with Marcus Rashford over a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.
Rashford has been in negotiations with the club over an extension to his current contract which expires next summer and the two parties have now reached an agreement on a five-year deal.
The Athletic are reporting that the 25-year-old will sign a new deal that will run until 2028 and the England international is understood to have rejected ‘more lucrative offers’ from both England and abroad to recommit his future to the Red Devils.
Rashford’s deal represents a major boost to the club ahead of the upcoming Premier League season, with the forward having scored 30 goals in all competitions during a career-best campaign in 2022/23.
Rashford became the first Manchester United player in a decade – and first since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement – to score 30 goals in a season to emerge as a central figure in Erik ten Hag’s side.
The announcement that Rashford has agreed terms is a positive start to what could be a big week for Ten Hag, who is closing in on the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.
United are close to an agreement with Inter and the Cameroon international is expected to undergo a medical before joining the Red Devils on their pre-season tour of the United States.
