Chelsea hope to get a deal for Moises Caicedo ‘done’ this week ahead of improved offer for the Brighton midfielder.
Chelsea remain in negotiations with Brighton over a deal to sign the Ecuador international and are set to return with an increased offer for the 21-year-old.
Caicedo is keen on the move to Chelsea and has opened up on his desire to complete a transfer to Stamford Bridge, but Brighton are demanding a fee that will make Caicedo the club’s record sale.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Seagulls want more than £70m as the fixed fee for Caicedo, but Chelsea are still hoping to conclude a deal this week ahead of their improved bid.
Caicedo starred last season as Brighton secured a top-six finish and Europa League qualification, securing European football for the first time in the club’s history.
He ranked second in the Premier League for tackles and interceptions, with Chelsea identifying Caicedo as their top target to reinforce a midfield depleted by the sales of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount.
Caicedo could become Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer after confirmed deals for Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Angelo Gabriel.
