Al Ahli are increasingly confident that the club will agree a deal to sign Riyad Mahrez from Manchester City.
The Saudi Pro League side have seen an opening bid turned down for the winger, but are expected to return with an improved offer.
The initial offer was worth £18m plus a further £5m in add-ons, a proposal which has been rejected by the Premier League champions.
City are demanding a fee of £30m for Mahrez, who has two years remaining on his current contract at the Etihad.
Mahrez scored 15 goals and provided 13 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions last season as Manchester City won the treble, but the 32-year-old is understood to be open to a move to Saudi Arabia.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Al Ahli are ‘increasingly confident’ that a deal can be agreed, as the three-time Saudi champions look to continue a summer recruitment drive that has already brought former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino and ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to the club.
Mahrez could become the second high-profile departure from Manchester City this summer after Ilkay Gundogan’s decision to leave the club for Barcelona. Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva have also been linked with leaving the Etihad.
