Liverpool are set to make an improved bid for Romeo Lavia after their first offer was knocked back.
Liverpool have already made moves to land two midfielders this summer in the form of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, though Saudi interest in Jordan Henderson and Fabinho looks like seeing Jurgen Klopp enter the midfield market once more.
Henderson has already started training with Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq despite a deal not being formally announced, while Fabinho has been linked to Al Ittihad.
The Reds have been linked with a number of potential midfield targets in recent weeks, including Man City’s Kalvin Phillips, Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, and Bayern’s Ryan Gravenberch, though it appears as though Southampton’s Lavia is their primary target.
Liverpool saw a £37 million bid rejected for the talented teenager on Tuesday, with the Championship side reported to be holding out for a deal worth £50m.
According to The Athletic, the Merseyside outfit aren’t wasting any time and are ready to submit an improved offer for the 19-year-old midfielder, saying ‘there is now an increasing likelihood of a deal being agreed’.
These claims are backed up by Fabrizio Romano, who says that the improved offer will be worth £45m, with £42.5m as a guaranteed fee and the rest in add-ons.
Romano says Liverpool are keen to move quickly amid interest from Chelsea, while Lavia has also been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in recent months.
Despite the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League, Lavia impressed during his debut campaign on the South Coast despite only making 29 appearances in what was an injury-disrupted season.
