Martial given ‘green light’ by Man Utd to look for new club

Anthony Martial has reportedly been given the ‘green light’ by Manchester United to look for a new club.

Martial has started just once for the Red Devils in the Premier League so far this season, having found himself out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

The France international scored just four league goals during a disappointing season last term and Eurosport are reporting that the club are open to his departure should a suitable offer arrive.

Martial is understood to be open to the prospect of remaining in the Premier League, though will have an ‘open mind’ regarding opportunities and has been linked with both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

United will demand a fee of around £40m for the 25-year-old, who has scored 78 goals in 263 appearances in all competitions since arriving from Monaco as a teenager in 2015.

However, the forward’s wages of around £250,000-a-week could prove problematic to attracting interest, with Martial’s lucrative deal at Old Trafford having three years left to run.

Martial had been keen to remain a part of the Red Devils’ future plans but is not prepared to remain as a squad option, with both Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood also amongst the club’s options at centre-forward this season.
