Levi Colwill has agreed terms on a long-term contract at Chelsea with the defender set to end speculation surrounding his future and commit to the club.
Colwill has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs after an outstanding campaign on loan at Brighton last season, with the Seagulls having seen two offers to sign the defender – the second of which was a club-record proposal worth £40m – rejected.
Liverpool and Tottenham are also understood to have monitored Colwill, who was keen to secure assurances over his role in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season before committing to a new deal.
Fabrizio Romano is now reporting that Chelsea have agreed terms with Colwill on a six-year deal, following productive talks with Pochettino, Director of Global Talent and Transfers Paul Winstanley, and technical director Laurence Stewart.
Chelsea had insisted that Colwill was ‘not for sale and untouchable’ this summer despite interest from other clubs and the academy graduate looks set for a central role in Pochettino’s plans this season.
Colwill impressed as England’s u-21 side won the European Championship without conceding a goal this summer and the left-sided centre-back will hope a regular role at Chelsea can lead to a senior call-up ahead of Euro 2024.
