PSG have agreed an €80m deal to sign Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos, as the club prepare for the expected departure of Kylian Mbappe.
The Ligue 1 champions have reached an agreement to sign Ramos, who has agreed a five-year contract at the Parc des Princes, in a deal worth €80m (£68.8m) including add-ons.
Manchester United had previously been linked with a move to sign the 22-year-old, who scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 appearances for Benfica last season.
Ramos hit the headlines after scoring a hat-trick as Portugal thrashed Switzerland at the World Cup last winter, becoming the first player to score a knockout round treble at a World Cup since 1990.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester United had considered a move for Ramos this summer, but instead focused on a deal for Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojland.
Ramos is now set to sign for PSG as the club’s remarkable recruitment drive continues this summer, with the Parisians also closing in on the signing of Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
The duo will become the latest high-profile additions to Luis Enrique’s squad, following the arrivals of Manuel Ugarte, Lucas Hernandez, Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio and Kang-in Lee this summer.
PSG’s move for Ramos comes amid doubts surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappe, who has informed the club he will not extend his current contract.
Mbappe’s deal expires next summer and PSG are keen to offload the France international immediately, rather than risk losing the club’s record goalscorer on a free transfer.
