Chelsea agree £25m fee with Brighton for Robert Sanchez

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for a fee of £25m including add-ons.

Chelsea have been in negotiations with the Seagulls to sign the Spanish shot-stopper as the west Londoners look to provide competition and cover for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Sanchez – who has won two caps for the Spanish national side – has made 90 appearances since progressing from Brighton’s academy ranks, but lost his place in the first team to Jason Steele last season.

Brighton have since signed another goalkeeper in Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht and have accepted Chelsea’s proposal for Sanchez.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the agreement and has revealed that the two clubs also remain in negotiations regarding Moises Caicedo. Chelsea have had two bids rejected for the midfielder, the latest of which was worth around £80m.

Sanchez’s arrival at Chelsea will allow Gabriel Slonina to leave the club on loan. Belgian top flight side KAS Eupen have been linked with a loan move for the American teenager, who Mauricio Pochettino recently said could become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
