Inter Milan vice-president blasts Romelu Lukaku ‘betrayal’

Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti has criticised Romelu Lukaku after the forward’s ‘betrayal’ of the club.

Inter withdrew from negotiations to sign Lukaku on a permanent deal earlier this summer after discovering the forward had opened negotiations with rivals Juventus over a move to Turin.

The Belgium international had spent last season on loan at Inter, having rejoined the club from Chelsea after a disappointing spell in the Premier League.

It had been expected that Lukaku would sign for Inter on a permanent basis, but the 30-year-old now appears set for Juventus.

Lukaku has agreed a three-year deal with Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who remain in negotiations with Chelsea over a potential swap-deal that would see Dusan Vlahovic move to west London.

Zanetti has hit out at Lukaku and admitted he ‘expected completely different behaviour’ from the Belgian, both as a ‘professional but also as a man’.

“Lukaku has betrayed us. We’re very disappointed,” Zanetti, told Gazzetta, as per Fabrizio Romano.

“We expected completely different behaviour by Romelu, as professional but also as a man.”
