Three names on centre-back shortlist for Manchester United

Manchester United have a three-man shortlist of centre-back options to replace Harry Maguire, as the defender nears a move to West Ham.

United have accepted a £30m bid from West Ham for the former club captain, who is free to leave after losing his first-team place last season.

The 30-year-old made just eight starts in the Premier League and is closing in on a move to the London Stadium as he looks to retain his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the Red Devils are considering three options to replace Maguire. Jean-Clair Todibo is one name on the shortlist and talks have already began with Nice over a potential deal.

The 23-year-old has shone since joining the Ligue 1 side from Barcelona in 2021 and earned his first call-up to the French national side in March.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba – who has also been linked with Tottenham – is also under consideration, as is Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard.

The latter is out of contract next summer and keen to leave the German champions in search of a more central role. Pavard – who has won the Champions League with Bayern and lifted the 2018 World Cup with France – is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League and can also feature at right-back.
