Brighton target Tyler Adams after Chelsea cancel deal

Brighton are targeting a deal to sign Tyler Adams from Leeds after Chelsea cancelled a deal to sign the midfielder.

Chelsea have dropped their interest in signing the USA international despite activating the £20m relegation release clause in Adams’ contract at Leeds, with the west Londoners focused on the British transfer record signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Southampton teenager Romeo Lavia.

Chelsea are negotiating with Brighton over a £110m deal for Caicedo, who has made clear his desire to move to Stamford Bridge despite the Seagulls accepting a record-breaking offer from Liverpool.

The Independent on reporting that Brighton will capitalise on Chelsea’s push to sign Caicedo, by targeting a deal for Adams as his replacement.

A complicated affair has formed with both Liverpool and Chelsea chasing deals for Caicedo and Lavia, with Brighton awaiting Caicedo’s sale to sign replacements.

Adams is now understood to top the club’s shortlist with Roberto De Zerbi preparing for Caicedo’s departure.

Brighton are also working on a deal to sign Mohammed Kudus from Ajax, though a disagreement over the release clause in the Ghana international’s contract has delayed a deal.
