Kyle Walker has hailed Cole Palmer as ‘incredible’ after the forward scored a crucial goal in Manchester City’s UEFA Super Cup win against Sevilla.
Palmer headed home an equaliser for the Citizens who had been below their best in Athens, with the 21-year-old’s goal forcing a shootout after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
City converted all five of their spot-kicks to claim their fourth trophy of the year to date, with Serbian midfielder Nemanja Gudelj missing the decisive kick for Europa League holders Sevilla.
Palmer’s goal continued an encouraging start to the season for the academy graduate, who came off the bench to score a stunning goal in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.
The England u-21 international – who has been linked with an exit from the Etihad in recent weeks – has become just the second player to score in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup in the same year, after Liverpool’s Michael Owen in 2001.
Walker was full of praise for Palmer and believes the forward is in the right place to continue his development.
“This guy is incredible and he’s got good players to learn off and the best manager in the world,” Walker told TNT Sports.
“He needs to keep going, keep his feet on the floor like he has been and keep scoring goals. If he keeps improving he’ll be fine.”
