Erik ten Hag is determined that Manchester United improve their away record against the Premier League’s top teams, ahead of this weekend’s trip to Tottenham.
United have not lost at home in the Premier League since the opening weekend of last season, but have endured a difficult recent record on the road when facing teams near the top of the table.
Last season, the Red Devils failed to win in all eight game away at the other teams inside the top nine, losing heavily at the likes of Brentford, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Ten Hag is keen to address that away record this season and has called on his side to show more ‘personality’ away from Old Trafford.
“Well, this is one of the aims we have for this season, that we have to step up in away games to get more points, to bring higher levels, because that is the foundation for, of course, for more points,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“So, it’s often to do with personality. So yeah, that’s the demand from me on the players and that we have to show more personality on the pitch to win such games. And so to get more points in away games.”
