West Ham are ‘really close’ to finalising a deal to sign Mohammed Kudus from Ajax with ‘90%’ of the deal complete.
West Ham saw an offer rejected for the Ghana international last week but have returned with an improved bid worth in the region of €45m (£38.4m).
Kudus has been tracked by a number of Premier League clubs with Chelsea and Brighton having considered approaches, the latter agreeing a fee with Ajax before a deal collapsed due to personal terms.
West Ham have taken advantage as David Moyes continues to overhaul his squad and Fabrizio Romano is reporting a deal is now close after the Hammers lodged a new formal bid.
Kudus scored 18 goals in all competitions for Ajax last season and impressed during the Champions League’s group stages, with the versatile star comfortable in a number of attacking roles.
West Ham’s latest bid is understood to contain a sell-on clause as the club near an agreement with Ajax, while it is expected that Kudus’ contract at the London Stadium will include a release clause after talks with Brighton stalled over that demand.
Kudus is set to become the club’s fourth signing of the summer as the Hammers rebuild from the sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal, following Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Konstantinos Mavropanos to East London. West Ham are also believed to be pushing for a deal to sign Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri.
