Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Chelsea remain interested in adding to their squad this summer but insists the club will only sign the ‘right profile’ of player.
Chelsea have spent more than £300m on eight new arrivals during the current transfer window, but remain interested in signing another forward due to injuries in the final third.
Mykhailo Mudryk is the latest attacking option be sidelined and will miss Friday’s clash with Luton, with Pochettino confirming the club are assessing the transfer market for reinforcements.
“It is unlucky because we need help now in this area, but it is going to be when all the players are fit,” Pochettino said at his pre-match press conference.
“We are looking for the right profile. That is the most important thing, and we are trying.”
Pochettino provided updates on the fitness of Mudryk and Carney Chukwuemeka, who have joined a lengthy list of names on the treatment table at Stamford Bridge.
“He (Mudryk) will be not play tomorrow. It is disappointing; he is a player we have hopes for, to help him perform the way we believe he can. It is not a big issue, maybe a week or a few days to have him involved in the team.
“It is unlucky, especially to lose Carney [Chukwuemeka] on Sunday. That is football. I am positive we will compete tomorrow.
“Carney’s issue is not as big [as feared]. I think weeks, rather than months. Hopefully he can be back as soon as possible. He scored and then got injured; it is unlucky but can be stronger. He is young and he will be much, much better.”
