Pochettino previews Luton clash and discusses Chelsea start to the season

Mauricio Pochettino has previewed Chelsea’s clash with Luton in the Premier League on Friday and has discussed his side’s start to the new season.

Chelsea take on Luton tomorrow evening looking to bounce back from defeat at West Ham on Sunday, with the west Londoners having failed to win in their opening two fixtures of the Premier League campaign.

Pochettino – who took charge of Chelsea this summer – has reiterated that his side are a work in progress and insists it will take time for the players to adapt to his philosophy.

“It is a matter of time for the players to understand our philosophy and the way we play. It is a process. We cannot force it, it is all about work and confidence,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“At the moment, we need to provide the tools to improve every day. The way we are performing shows we are in a good way and it is only a matter of time until we put it all together.”

Friday’s fixture pits together the division’s biggest spenders this summer in Chelsea, and a Hatters team promoted into the Premier League for the first time this season.

Despite the financial gap between the clubs, Pochettino says he is preparing for a tough game against a Luton team who have impressed the Argentine in transition.

“It is going to be a tough game. We were analysing them, they are a strong team who are clear in the way they play. They run really fast in transition, they are strong in set pieces. We need to respect them and match them.”
