Ten Hag dismisses Casemiro fitness concerns

Erik ten Hag has dismissed suggestions that Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is lacking fitness in the opening weeks of the new season.

United have made a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign and followed a fortuitous win over Wolves with a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Question marks have been asked about the Manchester United midfield, with both Wolves and Spurs having carved out a number of good opportunities.

The Red Devils have conceded the most shots and touches inside the box so far this season, while oppositions teams have completed more take-ons (36), and progressive carries (59), against Ten Hag’s team than any other side in the Premier League so far this season.

Casemiro’s fitness has been criticised across the opening two fixtures, but Ten Hag has dismissed suggestions his midfield has been overrun and said United’s issues run through the team.

“That assessment isn’t right,” Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference ahead of United’s clash with Nottingham Forest.

“It was about the back and the front. That is why we were so open. If you see his numbers, you’ll see Casemiro is fully fit. I don’t have any doubts they can do it.”
