Manchester City are increasingly confident that the club will agree a deal with Wolves for midfielder Matheus Nunes.
City have submitted a second offer worth in excess of €60m (£51.5m) for the Portugal international, having seen an opening bid turned down.
Nunes is keen on the move to Manchester and is already understood to have agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions, who are pushing to reach an agreement with Wolves.
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that City are increasing in confidence that a deal can be struck before the deadline, as Pep Guardiola looks to add depth to his midfield options after Kevin De Bruyne was ruled out until the new year with a hamstring injury.
Guardiola is a long-term admirer of Nunes, who signed for Wolves in a club-record £38m deal from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
The 25-year-old had a mixed first season at Molineux but remains highly regarded, with Liverpool having considered a move for him earlier this summer.
Wolves could be open to his sale as the club work on a tight financial budget this summer. His sale could provide new manager Gary O’Neil with funds to strengthen before the deadline.
