Bayern Munich ‘target’ Chelsea transfer as Pavard move held up

Bayern Munich have reportedly contacted Chelsea over a potential transfer for defender Trevoh Chalobah.

The German club have made the 24-year-old their ‘top target’ as they look to replace the departing Benjamin Pavard, according to Sky Sports News.

Bayern have made ‘initial contact’ with the Blues with a view to signing him before the transfer window closes on Friday.

Chalobah has five years left on his current deal with Chelsea, with the option for a further year, meaning he won’t come cheaply for the Bundesliga champions. He is yet to feature in the Premier League this season under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The deal will have implications on Pavard’s transfer to Inter Milan, who have reportedly offered €28m plus €5m add-ons for the 2018 World Cup winner.

Bayern want to sign a replacement for the centre-back before sanctioning the sale, however. The player was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad for Sunday’s clash with Augsburg.

“He has some problems so he’s not with the squad,” the former Chelsea manager said. “We understand Benji wants to join Inter but to complete a transfer, there’s not only one way to consider. We need to find a replacement or it won’t happen.”

According to Sky Italy, Inter have set a deadline of 2PM (UK time) on Tuesday for a deal to be done or they will walk away.

Pavard had previously been linked with Manchester United, who have re-signed free agent Jonny Evans to bolster their defensive options.
