Manchester United sign Sofyan Amrabat as full transfer fee revealed

Manchester United have completed the signing of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina on transfer deadline day.

The central midfielder joins on a season-long loan deal which includes an option to buy. According to The Athletic, Man United will pay a loan fee of €10 million and can turn the move into a permanent transfer for €20m plus €5m in add-ons next summer.

Amrabat was in the final 12 months of his contract at Fiorentina, who were initially only interested in selling the player, meaning he could leave for free next year.

However, the Italian outfit changed their tune early on Friday, indicating they would do a deal so long as a large loan fee was agreed, thus opening the door for the Red Devils to get their main target before the window closed.

Man United could only sign Amrabat on loan as they are constrained by Financial Fair Play regulations, having already spent £170m on Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana this summer.

Additionally, deadline day saw United sign Altay Bayindir for £6m from Fenerbahce, Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham, and Jonny Evans on a Bosman.

Fulham had also considered making a move for Amrabat in anticipation of Joao Palhinha’s transfer to Bayern Munich, which fell through. The Cottagers turned their focus on Scott McTominay, Everton’s Alex Iwobi and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg of Tottenham, but none of those moves materialised.

Amrabat, who came to prominence for his superb performances for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, will not feature in the Premier League clash with Arsenal this Sunday as he was not registered in time for the game, but Reguilon and Evans are in contention for inclusion in the matchday squad.
