Gabriel sale ‘never an option’ for Arsenal this summer

Arsenal never considered selling Gabriel Magalhaes this summer despite interest in the defender from Saudi Pro League sides.

Gabriel has started just one of Arsenal’s first four games of the Premier League campaign having been a fixture in the side last season, but the Gunners view the centre-back as a key part of Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Saudi Pro League clubs are understood to have registered interest in signing the 25-year-old, though Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Gabriel’s sale was never an option considered and the north Londoners did not even negotiate with interested sides.

Arsenal strengthened their squad with the signing of centre-back Jurrien Timber from Ajax during the summer, while Ben White was preferred in central defence for recent fixtures with Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Gabriel featured in all 38 of Arsenal’s Premier League games last season as the club secured Champions League qualification with a runners-up finish.

The defender could make his senior debut for Brazil this weekend, having been included in the national squad for World Cup qualification fixtures with Bolivia and Peru.
