‘I wouldn’t be able to do what he did at Liverpool’ – Scholes makes Gerrard admission

Paul Scholes has opened up on comparisons with Steven Gerrard and believes he wouldn’t have been ‘able to do what he did at Liverpool’.

Scholes and Gerrard are regarded as two of the finest midfielders in Premier League history, with the duo often compared against one another – and former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard – in an endless debate over who was the superior player.

Scholes was asked the question during an interview with FIVE’s YouTube channel and was full of praise for former England teammate Gerrard, while outlining the differences between them.

“I can’t answer that… Gerrard’s a great player. I’m not saying myself, we’re different, very different,” Scholes said.

“He’s an athlete [what separates them], he was more of a match-winner, but he was probably in a team where he had to be. I was more part of a team, he was more individual, I think.

“I wouldn’t be able to do what he did at Liverpool, whether he could do what I did at United, I don’t know. I don’t see why not, I don’t think I could do what he did at Liverpool.”
