Brighton have no intention of selling Evan Ferguson in the January transfer window despite the fact the young striker could fetch over £100 million in fees.
The Seagulls have made a habit of discovering hidden gems and selling them on at a big profit. The likes of Moises Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Ben White and Alexis Mac Allister, among others, have all left for big transfer fees over the past few years.
Despite selling so many of their key men, Brighton continue to be competitive in the Premier League, replacing those players with new ones who can slot in and perform at a high level.
Ferguson is one such player, with the Irishman scoring 12 league goals since making his top-flight debut in February 2022. His hat-trick against Newcastle United has put him on every big club’s radar, although he has been attracting interest ever since he first broke through.
Arsenal, Man City and Manchester United have all been linked with the 18-year-old in the past month, while Chelsea and Tottenham were said to be weighing up a move for Ferguson earlier in the summer.
Brighton owner Tony Bloom has poured cold water on any chance of Ferguson leaving the club in January, however. In a video message he told supporters that they have no plans to sell any core members of the playing squad.
“I don’t like to do much business in January,” Bloom said, via The Argus. “I can’t foresee any of our main players being sold in January. We just don’t do that. I’m not saying certain players might not be sold but none of our main players.”
Ferguson is currently doubtful for Brighton’s next match against Manchester United after pulling out of the Republic of Ireland squad with a knee injury.
