Chelsea winger says club are ‘lucky to have’ Pochettino

Noni Madueke has said that Chelsea are ‘lucky to have’ Mauricio Pochettino and admits he ‘can’t fault’ the new head coach.

Pochettino took charge of Chelsea during the summer, as the west Londoners look to rebuild from their lowest league finish since the 1993/93 campaign last season.

The Argentine has made a mixed start to the season results wise, but there have been signs that Chelsea’s new look squad are beginning to settle under his management.

Pochettino has been tasked with bringing the best from an expensively assembled and inexperienced squad, with Madueke sure that the former PSG and Spurs manager is the right man for the job.

“He’s tough with me, but I probably need that,” Madueke told the club’s official website.

“He’s transparent as well which is really important, to know where you stand and what he expects from you. He knows when to be really tough with me and when to put an arm around me. I can’t fault him.

“He’s a really good man manager. He’s created a culture where we are brothers off the pitch. It helps we have a young squad so we are with each other a lot anyway. We are lucky to have him.”

Madueke signed for Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of £28.5m deal during the January transfer window and has since made 15 appearances across all competitions.

The England under-21 international is keen to earn a regular role and says Chelsea’s faith in securing his signature gives him confidence he can make an impact.

“You know the blueprint of the club. If they have recruited you to come and join the project it says something about your ability. That’s good to know in the back of your mind.”
