Phil Foden has said he wants to be ‘one of the best players in the Premier League’ as he looks to build on treble success at Manchester City.
Foden formed part of the side that won a historic Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble last season, continuing an incredible start to his career that has seen the 23-year-old win 11 major trophies at the Etihad.
The England international admits he ‘could never have dreamed’ of such success so young and said City’s Champions League triumph was his standout moment to date.
“I could never have dreamed to win this amount of trophies at the age of 23, it’s a joke. Some people don’t finish their career with what I’ve won,” Foden told the BBC’s Football Focus.
“If I had to pick one, last season you can’t get much better than what we achieved. To win that Champions League the way we did. It’s a moment that will stick in my mind forever, it’s one of the best feelings I’ve ever had in life.
“It took a few days after to really sink in what we’d achieved. I was thinking ‘have I really won a Champions League?’. I had to look at the medal a couple of times.
“I was speaking to Jack (Grealish) after it and saying ‘how are we ever going to get that high again?’. It’s so hard to repeat what we did, I almost got a little bit sad about it that it’s gone now, that quick.”
Foden has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League and won back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year awards in 2021 and 2022. The midfielder is keen to continue improving and is targeting a place among the Premier League’s best.
“Personally for me, I want to be one of the best players in the Premier League this year. I want to show people what I can do, whether it’s in a central role or out wide, I wan’t to get a run of games, get in the flow and show people what I’m about. That’s my aim.”
