Schmeichel slams Sancho for Ten Hag outburst

Peter Schmeichel has slammed Jadon Sancho for his social media post aimed at Erik ten Hag and says the Manchester United winger wouldn’t get a ‘second chance’ under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Sancho is currently training away from the first-team squad as the Red Devils consider disciplinary action.

The England international took to social media to call comments from Ten Hag ‘completely untrue’, after the Manchester United manager had said Sancho was left out of the squad to face Arsenal this month due to unacceptable performance levels in training.

Sancho said he had been made a ‘scapegoat’ at the club and now faces an uncertain future, having failed to produce consistent performances since his £72.9m arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

Former United goalkeeper Schmeichel has criticised Sancho for going public with his comments and said the winger would not get another opportunity under Ferguson’s management.

“Sancho wouldn’t have had a second chance with Sir Alex [Ferguson],” Schmeichel told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“It’s a player who’s come in at a high price and he’s not performed for the club. It’s not the first issue the club has had with him. Alex would have stopped that. Today it’s different of course. Anyone who speaks out about the manager, I don’t like that.

“I don’t think it’s right. It really is so annoying that when we talk about Man United we talk about nothing that has to do with football. It’s always about something else – the club has that kind of attraction all around the world, but we would like most of that narrative to be about football.”
