Mikel Arteta praised the defensive performance from his Arsenal side as the club secured a first win at Everton since 2017.
Arsenal had lost four of their last five visits to Goodison Park but ended that record with a 1-0 win on Sunday, as Leandro Trossard side-footed home in the second-half to continue the Gunners’ unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.
Arsenal were criticised for a lack of fight after their 1-0 defeat at Everton last season, but Arteta believes his side showed their character to dominate the game this time around.
“We talked about it, this is the challenge. For six years we haven’t won here and there are a few reasons for it,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
“It’s how you do things and the input you do in every single action. I think we played an incredible game, we kept them quiet and created many, many chances, The first (disallowed) goal, as well, should be allowed. We dominated the game and we are extremely happy to go away with a win and a clean sheet.
“We took the game into the areas we wanted for long and we were really solid. We gave very, very little away. They haven’t created a single chance. It’s about intelligence but also about the fight.”
