Postecoglou: Spurs still trying to replace ‘greatest player’ Kane

Ange Postecoglou says Spurs are ‘still trying to replace’ the club’s ‘greatest player’ after Harry Kane’s summer departure.

Spurs sold Kane to Bayern Munich in a deal which could reach £100m including add-ons, after the forward entered the final 12 months of his deal and expressed a desire for a new challenge.

Kane scored a club record 280 goals in 485 appearances in all competitions for the north Londoners and has started his career at Bayern in fine fashion, scoring five times in six games including a goal in the midweek Champions League win over Manchester United.

Spurs take on Arsenal in their first North London derby since the 30-year-old’s exit this weekend, and Postecoglou admits his team are still adjusting to life without the England captain.

“There is a risk of feeling that void from the start, that’s the reality,” the Australian told his pre-match press conference.

“It’s a fairly significant figure on and off the field. We tried to, as a collective, focus on the road ahead and the team we want to be.

“I’ve been pleased with how the lads have tackled the task of trying to be an attacking threat from all areas so people don’t see a glaring gap, but we’re still trying to replace arguably the greatest player this club has ever seen.

“We’ve managed it well so far.”
