Free agent David de Gea considering retirement

David de Gea will consider retirement if he does not receive an offer from a major club, following his departure from Manchester United during the summer.

De Gea is a free agent after leaving Manchester United when his contract expired at the end of last season, but the Spaniard is yet to sign for a new club despite his availability.

The 32-year-old was linked with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich during the summer, though that duo signed Kepa Arrizabalaga and Daniel Peretz to boost their goalkeeping options respectively. Clubs in the Saudi Pro League have also been reported to hold interest in De Gea, but no move has materialised.

The Guardian are reporting that De Gea will consider retirement if he does not receive an approach from a club capable of challenging for major honours.

The Spanish shot-stopper won the Premier League, FA Cup, two League Cups and the Europa League during his 12 seasons at Old Trafford, while he twice won the Premier League’s Golden Glove and was named as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year a joint-record four times.

De Gea was offered a new contract at Manchester United on reduced terms, but negotiations broke down and led to his exit. United signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan as a replacement for the long-serving goalkeeper.
