Foden ‘proud’ as 10-man Man City maintain perfect start

Phil Foden said he was proud of the performance from Manchester City as the champions maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Pep Guardiola’s side were in complete control after goals from Foden and Erling Haaland put the Citizens two goals ahead at half-time, but a red card for Rodri changed the narrative of the game just seconds into the second half.

The Spaniard was sent off after putting his hands around Morgan Gibbs-White’s throat, having tangled with the Nottingham Forest midfielder in the 46th minute.

City combated the threat of Forest well despite having a man disadvantage for almost the entire second half and Foden was delighted with the performance from his side, who have become just the second defending champions to open a Premier League season with six straight wins.

“Delighted with the performance. I think the first half was brilliant apart from the last 10, I think they found us out a little,” Foden said, as per the BBC.

“The second half was not what we expected because Rodri got a red card quite early.

“It wasn’t ideal but we showed a different side to us today to dig in and yeah I’m proud of the team.”
