Arsenal to ‘step up’ interest in £60m Toney

Arsenal are set to step up their interest in signing Brentford forward Ivan Toney, who is valued at around £60m.

Mikel Arteta wants to sign another centre-forward in the January transfer window and the Gunners are interested in Toney, who has scored 32 goals in 66 league appearances since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League.

The 27-year-old is currently serving a suspension for breaching the FA’s gambling restrictions and will be eligible to return to action in January.

Toney’s physical presence and prolific goal record make him an ideal option for Arsenal, who are targeting a different profile of forward to aid their challenge for the title.

According to the Mirror, Brentford will accept a fee of £60m for the England international, who will have just 18 months remaining on his contract in January.

Toney has made clear he has no intention of signing a new deal and Arsenal are understood to be stepping up their interest.

The Gunners could look to include Eddie Nketiah as part of a deal, despite a strong start to the season that saw the 24-year-old included in the senior England squad for the first time this month.

London rivals Chelsea and Spurs have also been credited with interest in Toney ahead of the winter window.
