‘It’s about time’ – Pochettino relieved as Chelsea end month-long wait for a goal

Chelsea booked their place in the next round of the League Cup, but Mauricio Pochettino hopes Wednesday’s win over Brighton will be a turning point in their season.

Nicolas Jackson scored the only goal of the game to eliminate high-flying Brighton at Stamford Bridge and secure just their second win of the campaign in all competitions.

“It’s really important for us to get the victory and that we’re through to the next round after a few games where we didn’t score or win,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

Jackson’s strike in the 50th minute of the contest was the Blues’ first goal since the last round of the competition, when they defeated AFC Wimbledon 2-1 on August 30. They have been held scoreless in three consecutive Premier League matches since then.

“It’s important for offensive players to find the net. He really was really good,” Pochettino said of the Colombian striker.

When asked if the result can be a turning point for Chelsea, he responded: “It should be, it must be. It’s about time. Today there were many positive things. Today we saw the players fighting to give their best.”

Chelsea have been drawn with Championship side Blackburn Rovers in the fourth round of the League Cup. They return to Premier League action on Monday when they make the short trip to Craven Cottage for the West London Derby with Fulham.
