Real Madrid are monitoring Roberto De Zerbi’s progress at Brighton ahead of Carlo Ancelotti’s expected exit from the club.
Ancelotti has been backed to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season with the four-time Champions League winner interested in taking charge of the Brazilian national team.
Real Madrid are considering replacements in the event Ancelotti departs next summer and Spanish publication Cadena Ser are reporting that De Zerbi is on the club’s list of candidates.
The Italian has turned the heads of top teams across Europe after an impressive spell in the Premier League, having led Brighton to a top-six finish in England’s top-flight after taking charge in September 2022.
De Zerbi’s attractive brand of football, which has taken Brighton into European competition for the first time in their history, has alerted Real Madrid who are considering an approach.
However, the favourite to succeed Ancelotti remains former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso, who has overseen a transformation of Bayer Leverkusen in his first senior managerial role.
Alonso inherited a side in the Bundesliga’s relegation places last season before leading the club to Europa League qualification, while Leverkusen are level on points with Bayern Munich at the top of the table this season after an unbeaten start to the campaign.
