Eddie Howe has confirmed that Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak and Sven Botman are all injury doubts for Newcastle’s clash with Burnley this weekend.
Newcastle will be aiming to extend their unbeaten record to five games in all competitions at St James’ Park this weekend, a run which has included four consecutive clean sheets.
The Magpies could be without a number of key figures however, after Howe confirmed that Callum Wilson and Sven Botman are being assessed ahead of the clash with the Clarets.
“We’re going to see today. Callum has very minor hamstring tightness. We’ll give him every chance of being available. Same with Sven – we’ll make a late check on him,” Howe said at his pre-match press conference.
Howe said that Alexander Isak – who scored the midweek winner against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup – is also a doubt.
“He’s another one we’ll need to make a late check on. That’s the cost of having three games in a week – it’s usually the third game where these things build up.”
Howe also provided an update on Harvey Barnes after the winger was substituted early on in the 8-0 win over Sheffield United last weekend. The Newcastle boss confirmed the summer signing does not require surgery, but is expected to be ruled out until 2024 with a foot issue.
“We think he’s going to be out for around three months. No surgery required which is good news but his foot is now in a boot. It’s an injury underneath his toe. He’s now started his recovery and he’s got to rest to let it recover then we can build him back up again.”
