Broja hails Chelsea win at Fulham as ‘massive boost’

Armando Broja hailed Chelsea’s 2-0 win at Fulham as a ‘massive boost’ for the club after the west Londoners ended a run of three games without a goal.

Chelsea earned a much needed three points after a comfortable west London derby win at Craven Cottage on Monday evening.

Mykhailo Mudryk opened the scoring with his first Chelsea goal, after the winger collected Levi Colwill’s clipped pass before firing past Bernd Leno. Chelsea then doubled their lead just 20 seconds after the restart, as Tim Ream conceded possession in a dangerous area to put Fulham under pressure.

Cole Palmer capitalised on the mistake to release Broja in behind and Ream’s recovery challenge deflected in off the Albanian forward to put Chelsea two ahead. Mauricio Pochettino’s side remained in control of the contest to seal just their second win of the campaign, with Broja calling the win a massive boost for the squad.

“The win is a massive boost for the football club, for us as a team. We introduced a whole new team this summer, so it has been about getting to know each other and gel,” Broja told Sky Sports.

“It is always difficult when you have quite a few new boys and new coaching staff coming in, but I think we are showing now that we are gelling well and the win is a massive boost going forwards. A massive three points.”

Broja’s goal was his first for Chelsea since October 2022 after a serious knee injury sustained last season and the 21-year-old said it was an ‘amazing’ feeling to get on the scoresheet.

“It is amazing. As a striker you always want to score, on the big stage and in the big moments. An unbelievable feeling to score in a derby too.

“Amazing to get the three points, which is the most important thing, to work for the team and to try and score when I can.”

A positive night was not without setbacks for Chelsea however, with goalscorers Mudryk and Broja each substituted with injuries. Moises Caicedo also suffered a late knock to add to Chelsea’s injury concerns.

Chelsea return to Premier League action at home to Burnley on Saturday.
