Man City ‘ahead’ of Man United in Brighton transfer race

Manchester City and Manchester United are both ‘eyeing’ a move for Brighton attacker Kaoru Mitoma in the January transfer window.

The Japan international made his breakthrough with the Seagulls last season, registering seven goals and five assists in 33 Premier League appearances. He has continued his good form this term, scoring three goals and making three assists.

Mitoma’s performances have caught the attention of other clubs, with Spanish outlet Fichajes reporting that Man City and Man United are both ‘competing’ for the player’s signature in the winter – but claim that Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘ahead’ of their rivals in their bid to sign him.

However, their transfer plans could be foiled before then, as London World claims that Mitoma has ‘agreed’ a new five-year contract with Brighton. The report adds that the winger is due to earn £80,000 per week, or £4.16 million per annum, as part of the new deal.

Mitoma joined Brighton from J-League outfit Kawasaki Frontale in 2021 before spending time on loan with Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium.
