Paul Scholes has backed Jude Bellingham to “go as far as he wants” in his career – and says the Real Madrid star is “better than anything we’ve seen” before.
The England midfielder has made an instant impact at the Bernabeu, scoring ten goals in his first appearances for the Spanish club, whom he joined in the summer from Borussia Dortmund for an initial transfer fee of £88 million.
Scholes has been impressed by the 20-year-old’s ability to take it all in his stride at such a young age, adding that he has never seen an English player develop so quickly.
“I think Jude Bellingham for his age and what he’s accomplished so far in his short career, is better than anything we’ve seen,” the former Manchester United midfielder told TNT Sports.
“He started at Birmingham and then decided to go to Borussia Dortmund, which by the looks of things was the right move for him, given what happened over the last few years.
“It was a really brave move for him, but he’s such a driven and determined lad with so much talent – nothing seems to faze him.
“He’s gone to one of the biggest clubs in the world now in Real Madrid and he’s just cracking on like he’s playing for Birmingham! He just stands out that much.”
Scholes fails to see why Bellingham won’t be one of the game’s greats over the next decade, and says that the England international will have his eyes on the Ballon d’Or.
“I’m sure he’s thinking about the Ballon d’Or, with the way he’s going at the moment. You try and look for a chink in his armour. Is he a bad lad? Can he go off the rails? He doesn’t seem like it.
“He’s so intelligent and well-spoken, with a great family behind him. There’s no weakness in him.
“I don’t see any reason why he can’t be one of the best there has been in the next 10 years.”
